Why did you apply for the Godolphin Flying Start scholarship back in 2021
I applied for Godolphin Flying Start in the hope of gaining the most globally well-rounded education on offer in the thoroughbred industry. I saw the programme as an opportunity to enlighten me across all aspects of bloodstock, racing and breeding.
Where has been your favourite phase of the programme?
The USA phase was a phenomenal eye opener for me. The sheer size and commerciality of the industry there was hugely interesting to me. I had the opportunity to complete a placement with WinStar Farm which really enhanced this experience.
Who has had the most influence on you since you commenced the programme?
My two externships thus far have been with WinStar Farm in the USA and Magic Millions in Australia. The two teams gave me great insights into their businesses and I walked away with some strong learnings from both.
How would you measure your progress since August 2021?
My progress throughout the course is best measured through the global outlook myself and fellow trainees have developed. Godolphin Flying Start has offered us alternate viewpoints that we wouldn’t have gained without the opportunity to travel and learn from some of the industry’s pre-eminent contributors.
What is your biggest learning from the last two years that will help you in the future?
In meeting with a variety of industry leaders throughout the programme, their willingness to give as opposed to take has been clear to see. This outlook, combined with strong preparation are a common theme among exceptional contributors. I hope to replicate these qualities in my own professional career.
