Why did you apply for the Godolphin Flying Start scholarship back in 2021
In light of wanting to start up my own consignment and pre-training business in the future, I felt the Flying Start would offer me a great opportunity to gain insight into different operations around the world. The wealth of knowledge and support offered by both the international Godolphin team and the Flying Start alumni was hugely appealing, as well as meeting and living alongside 11 like-minded young professionals over the course of the programme.
Where has been your favourite phase of the programme?
I really enjoyed America from a racing perspective, particularly my externship with trainer Brendan Walsh. He runs a very impressive operation and is a trainer I have always wanted to spend time with.
Who has had the most influence on you since you commenced the programme?
We have been fortunate to meet a huge range of influential professionals over the past two years, all of whom have been very generous with their time and wisdom. Spending two months alongside Sebastian Hutch at Inglis in Sydney was a very valuable experience, and his drive and dynamism are attributes I aspire to.
How would you measure your progress since August 2021?
My understanding of business logistics has greatly improved, as well as my knowledge of respective issues facing racing jurisdictions around the world. Additionally, I have become much more aware of different trading opportunities and market tendencies in the countries we have visited.
What is your biggest learning from the last two years that will help you in the future?
The importance of skilled staff in running a successful operation, and therefore the importance of fostering a healthy working environment to help prevent these employees from leaving the industry.
