Stephen Thorne lands first and second winners since taking out licence

2014 graduate Stephen Thorne saddled his first and second winners since moving into the training ranks as Sayifyouwill.

ran out a cosy victor of the mile claimer before Shoot To Kill saw off all challengers in the 7f handicap.

Having spent time with Mike de Kock, Ralph Beckett and most recently as assistant trainer to Ado McGuinness, Thorne took out his licence last month.

Sayifyouwill was never in danger of being caught when James Ryan sent her to lead a furlong out and she went on to score by four lengths.

Shoot To Kill was landing his ninth win and first at the track under Donagh O’Connor at odds of 9-2 when he repelled Altimara by three quarters of a length.

“It’s magic and a proud moment,” Thorne told Racing TV. “We’re a little less than three weeks from taking the licence out and we’ve had several hit the board.

“I’ve worked with plenty of top international trainers and have experience now, so I just need a bit of luck and support. Hopefully things will move forward and I’m really looking forward to it.”
